Dear
Students, Parents, Faculty and Staff:
When I
returned home from my summer vacation and reviewed my
photographs, this one seemed to symbolize what I wanted to
communicate to you about our 2007-2008 school year. It may
seem a bit corny, but I’m OK with that.
I am
standing at one end, the beginning, of a path, perhaps
inviting you to join me as we walk to the end. The path is
short, and the end is very bright.
To my
students – the end is your future. You’re probably thinking it
looks like next summer. The path, of course, is our school
year. Might I suggest that faculty and staff are waiting
inside the path. They are already busy preparing the path for
you, making sure it’s clear and easy to travel.
Although
the path may look short, we will provide you with several maps
so you don’t get lost along the way. I’ll give you the first
map, our 2007 Parent/Student Handbook. Please pay attention to
some changes and additions regarding tardiness to school,
cheating and plagiarism, and a change to the discipline
section of the handbook.
Teachers
have curriculum maps to ensure that when you reach the end of
the path - and you will - you are prepared for what’s at the
end.
To my
parents – you can and should accompany your children to the
end of the path, but you must stop at the end. That bright
place is only for them.
For me,
this photograph will always symbolize the invitation I extend
to my students. It will also continue to remind me about how
lucky I am to be a guide on this trip we call “education.”
